Plaque on gums and teeth can result in inflamed gums and loss of bone under the teeth. This condition is called gingivitis or periodontal disease or gum disease. Over 70 percent of people have this condition and are not aware of it. In the beginning, the condition is painless. Tooth cavities cause discomfort, but the early stages of gingivitis doesnt have symptoms.
Having regular dental check-ups and periodontal examinations are very important and will help detect if periodontal problems exist. Periodontal disease begins when plaque, a sticky, colorless film of bacteria, food debris and saliva, is left on the teeth and gums. The bacteria produce toxins (acids) that inflame the gums and slowly destroy the bone. Brushing and flossing regularly and properly will ensure that plaque is not left behind to do its damage.
There are several other things that can cause gingivitis and gum disease or which may increase the risk.
Plaque and tartar are more likely to form on the teeth of people who smoke or chew tobacco.
Bridges that no longer fit properly, crowded teeth, or defective fillings that may trap plaque and bacteria can cause gum disease. Read more...

When you are looking for the best tooth whitener, tooth bleaching is known as one of the greatest cosmetic dentistry procedures, so when you are looking for the sole procedure that is at the top, you have many options to choose from. However, remember that before you do anything you should make sure with your dentist that it is okay and wait for them to give you the go ahead.
Good teeth whiteners will always contain effective ingredients capable of bleaching your teeth without causing any damage. Essentially, these products contain a bleaching gel of which peroxide is a key ingredient. Unlike many people tend to believe, peroxide is not a bad ingredient and in fact it is 100% safe for anyone to use. The only real difference between these procedures is the way in which the gel is applied to the teeth.
Laser tooth whitening is one of the best tooth whitener procedures to exist. It was made popular with the well known Zoom! and the procedures that were demonstrated on the TV show ‘Extreme Makeover’. Even though Zoom! is known as one of the most common brands when it comes to laser tooth whitening, there are many other manufacturers as this is a general in-office procedure. Read more...

Are your teeth yellow and stained? If so, are you happy with them the way they are, and are you proud to show them off? I think it’s safe to say that if your teeth are yellow and stained then you’re more than likely not happy with them because let’s face it; yellow teeth do absolutely nothing for one’s appearance. Even though you may brush your teeth two or three times each day, there is still something else you can do in order to whiten your teeth at home.
Furthermore, it is not necessary to spend a vast amount of money by going to see a dentist in order to have laser tooth whitening done, because you can get everything you need directly from a pharmacy. In fact, there are numerous products available to choose from, although they do differ in terms of price and effectiveness.
It is more affordable to do your teeth whitening at home. You can do it in your own time and in the comfort of your own home, and you don’t have to worry about anyone watching you. There is the normal gel that is used like the dentists use, but then there is also the White Light that can be used at home to whiten your teeth. Read more...

We’re bombarded today by images of famous people, whether celebrities or politicians, sporting a glittering white smile. It’s no wonder, therefore, that more and more people are splurging money on tooth whitening products and services.
Whitening treatments are the most conventional service that dentists now offer and the list of over the counter treatments that you can choose from are continuing to grow.
Teeth discoloration is a natural process, but it can be worse for a number of people, especially if things like coffee, wine and cigarettes add to their discoloration. There are three major methods of tooth whitening that a person can use today.
The first, and most expensive, is dentist-administered tooth whitening. A controlled dilution of peroxide is placed on the teeth following a process of ensuring that the teeth and gums are clean and cavities filled. While costly, this procedure is needed as seldom as once a year, and you won’t have to be anxious if you’re doing things right since a dentist is taking care of it for you. Read more...

Many people have to contend with discolored and stained teeth as they age, and this can have an adverse effect on their self esteem and confidence. The answer to this is not always as expensive as an in-office whitening treatment, for home teeth whitening is just as responsive in modern times.
Home teeth whitening kits can be found in the form of strips, trays and brush applicators. Whitening strips have a gel employed on them and are then positioned on the teeth front and whiten them. Trays are stuffed with a bleaching gel and held in the mouth for hours at a time. Brush applicators are soaked into a bleaching gel and then brushed onto the teeth. All these products carry oxidizing agents, such as peroxide that help get rid of discoloration on the enamel of teeth, and other components that assist in breaking down the element that induces teeth yellowing.
These products lighten discoloration in much the same way as in-office whitening, but the concentration of peroxide is minimal, and it can therefore be applied for lengthier span of time, such as overnight, with the utilization of a bleaching tray. It is a cheap method, and many of these products are effective as advertised with consistent use for a considerable period of time. Read more...

Several people are paying big bucks and hours of their time on attempting to make their teeth whiter. The discoloration of teeth is a natural process, but it can be suspended and practically prevented using the right products and the best oral hygiene habits. But with so a lot of products available, you must think long and hard prior to deciding on the best teeth whitening method for you.
The best products for teeth whitening are custom whitening trays and whitening pens. The first one is important because they can give you whiter teeth that seem to be entirely natural and healthy, without any significant discoloration or stains close to the gum line. Spending a few extra dollars on a whitening kit that has a tray that can be formed to your mouth is well worth the effort.
Whitening pens are to some extent similar to brush-on gels, but are more efficient because they are faster, contain a higher quality of whitening ingredients and are much more accurate. If you yearn for a fast, better quality whitening technique that is easy to use, then a whitening pen is the way to go. Read more...

Good oral hygiene ensures healthy teeth and an appealing smile. We’re not all born with Hollywood smiles, but we all have a duty to maintain our mouths fresh and our teeth clean. Whether you have funky canines, spaces between teeth or uneven front incisors, it is the state of your teeth that counts the most, not its shape. If your teeth are white, it will compensate for any structural imperfections and irregularities.
Our focus tends to shift from a person’s eyes to their mouth when we are talking with them up close. Our brains are just wired that way. This explains why, when someone has something stuck in between their teeth or noticeable plaque build-up, we will notice it right away. Even worse than plaque, the end result of poor dental hygiene is embarrassing bad breath, which is caused by the bacteria in the mouth which produce damaging acid.
Dental health can be achieved with three simple steps: brush, floss, and regular gum-care.
You need to take care of your teeth and to do that, you may need to use sophisticated tools such as Philips Sonicare Toothbrush. That said, let’s review our 3 golden rules. Read more...
