<p>In the movie &#8220;Erin Brochovich&#8221;, Julie Roberts plays the leading lady who finger pointed at the industries for having illegally dumped hazardous waste, leading to a cancer cluster in the neighborhood.</p>
<p>So, what is a cancer cluster? And how does it affect your health?</p>
<p>A cancer cluster is the repeated occurrence of a particular type of cancer in a specific community or neighborhood. Because of its health hazards, a cancer cluster requires medical intervention and investigation to determine the causes of the outbreaks of cancer.</p>
<p>Cancer occurrence may be due to the pollution of the air, the underground water, the toxic waste dumps, and the power lines, among others.</p>
<p>If repeated outbreaks have occurred in a specific neighborhood or at workplace, then there should be concern from the authorities about the formation of a cancer cluster.</p>
<p>For example, in shipyards, due to the greater exposure to asbestos, shipbuilders are more prone to lung cancer; or in factories where there is greater exposure to vinyl chloride, workers have  higher risk of liver cancer. These work environments are grounds for cancer clusters.</p>
<p>Although there have been many cancer cluster investigations, very few of them have produced tangible results, that is, a definitive connection of a cancer outbreak with a certain chemical or toxic material. In addition, given that cancer may take many years to develop in an individual, proving the cause and effect of cancer due to an external factor is extremely difficult, if not impossible.</p>
<p>To illustrate, breast cancer has increased significantly in recent years. This drastic increase may be attributed to several factors. Nowadays, many women tend to bear children later in life because of their career, and this trend may affect their hormone balance. Having children earlier may decrease breast cancer risk, while delaying childbirth may increase the risk. Other factors, such as obesity, diet and lifestyle, also play a critical role in the incidence of breast cancer. Therefore, to pin down the cause of breast cancer to a specific agent is almost impossible. For this reason, common cancers, such as breast cancer, do not fall into a cancer cluster.</p>
<p>Indeed, given that each type of cancer has its unique causes and risk factors, only the frequent causes of the same type of cancer, which does not occur frequently elsewhere, can be counted towards a cluster and compared against background rates.</p>
<p>There are approximately over one million cases of cancer diagnosed each year in the United States. So, to prove or to investigate into the possibility of a cancer cluster, there must be many cases of similar type of cancer outbreak in a specific geographic area. In addition, this type of cancer must be uncommon, or at least apparently less frequent elsewhere. Furthermore, there must be an evident source of environmental pollution as the cancer agent.</p>
<p>That said, it is still difficult to prove the formation of a cancer cluster, simply because of the power of the establishment to stop it, as portrayed in the movie &#8220;Erin Brochovich.&#8221;</p>
<p>The moral of the story is this: Be vigilant of the environment &#8211; the place you live in, the place your work at, and the chemicals or toxic substances you may be directly or indirectly exposed to. Prevention is better than cure. Beware of the health hazards, whether it is a cancer cluster or not is irrelevant. </p>

<p>Heartburn in pregnancy is caused by a muscular weakness. The muscle involved is the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), a ring of muscle between your stomach and esophagus. The LES is designed to relax when you swallow food so that the food can enter the stomach. Once the food is in the stomach, the LES is to tighten, keeping food and stomach acids from flowing back into your esophagus. If the LES always worked properly, no one would ever suffer heartburn in pregnancy.</p>
<p>&#13;Like many other parts of the body, however, the LES is affected by pregnancy. Heartburn in pregnancy is a frequent complaint.</p>
<p><b>Common Question about Heartburn in Pregnancy </b></p>
<p>&#13;When does heartburn start in pregnancy? How soon in pregnancy do you get heartburn? When should I expect heartburn in pregnancy? The question varies, but the answer is always the same. Heartburn in pregnancy usually begins around the fifth month. From that point forward, it may come and go until you give birth.</p>
<p>&#13;How do you treat heartburn in pregnancy? </p>
<p><b>Pregnancy Heartburn Treatment</b></p>
<p>&#13;Pregnancy heartburn treatment begins with an understanding of the relationship between heartburn and pregnancy. Why is it that at this time when you are so happy to be expecting, you suddenly have heartburn?</p>
<p>&#13;With pregnancy, the placenta produces progesterone, a hormone that relaxes the uterus&#8217; smooth muscles. It relaxes some other muscles, too, one of which can be the LES separating the esophagus and stomach. As progesterone relaxes the LES, it fails to close and/or remain tightly closed. This allows acids to flow back into the esophagus, causing heartburn. Progesterone also affects the contractions of the esophagus, slowing the wavelike action. This, too, contributes to heartburn in pregnancy.</p>
<p>&#13;As your pregnancy progresses and your baby grows, your abdominal cavity will become crowded. The limited space will be taken up increasingly by the growing, moving infant. This puts pressure on the stomach, which in turn pressures the LES to open. Heartburn can quickly result as stomach acids are pushed into the esophagus.</p>
<p><b>Steps of Pregnancy Heartburn Treatment</b></p>
<p>&#13;Your healthcare provider will warn you not to take medications that might harm the baby. There are steps you can take, however, to treat heartburn in pregnancy.</p>
<p>&#13;1. Watch your weight gain. Ask your physician how much you should reasonably gain, and be careful to keep your weight to that limit. Excess weight will place more pressure on the LES and increase heartburn.</p>
<p>&#13;2. Avoid tight clothing, especially around your waist and abdomen. Tight clothing also contributes to pressure on the LES muscle ring.</p>
<p>&#13;3. When bending, bend at the knees rather than at the waist. Bending at the waist is a common cause of heartburn in pregnancy.</p>
<p>&#13;4. Eat several small meals during the day in place of three larger meals. Eat slowly and chew your food well.</p>
<p>&#13;5. Have your last meal or snack at least two to three hours before bedtime. Allowing food to digest before you lie down can reduce heartburn.</p>
<p>&#13;6. Although you will want to drink eight to ten glasses of water daily, you should Avoid drinking large amounts of liquid during meals. Try to remember that a distended stomach will pressure the LES and cause heartburn.</p>
<p>&#13;7. Ward off potential heartburn by chewing gum after eating. The chewing action can help release air bubbles that contribute to heartburn and the gum stimulates the production of saliva, which can help neutralize acid.</p>

This will hopefully cure your snoring problme or give you a better outlook on the way you sleep.</p>

<p>Below are some tips that you can follow to help you stop snoring. Please take note that one of the main reasons why people snore is simply because they are not getting good quality sleep at night.</p>

<p>Get Good Sleep</p>

<p>The best tip to stop snoring is to get good quality sleep. Getting good sleep does not only prevent snoring, it&#8217;s good for the body as well because lack of sleep results in the weakening of our immune system. Sleeping is when our bodies repair itself and builds up resistance to attacks. You should have regular sleeping times and have undisturbed sleep as much as possible. Having these you will be better able to follow other tips to stop snoring on your own.</p>

<p>Also note that the majority of people who snore sleep on their backs. Hence, try not to sleep on your back and try to sleep on your side. This will help you stop snoring on your own.</p>

<p>Try not to consume alcohol before you sleep because alcohol tends to make you snore more. Alcohol relaxes the muscles of the body more so than normal sleeping does. Since your muscles are more relaxed while under the influence, the back of your throat begins to collapse more rapidly then when sober. This can be one of the root causes of why snoring occurs for an individual.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Finally, people who breathe through their mouths tend to snore while they sleep. Sometimes we breathe through our mouths because our nose if blocked especially when we have a flu or cough. Please ensure your nasal passages are clear before sleeping. Nasal strips can aid you in this while sleeping although sometimes it takes getting used to because of the slight discomfort level.</p>

<p>&#13;Your metabolism slows down in the nighttime. Actually, this is a misunderstanding; people often believe that you eat more calories in the evening, which is true in many cases. The result that is drawn from this hoax is that while you sleep your body&#8217;s metabolism slows down and fat is built, overnight. The truth is that your body&#8217;s metabolism does not change it&#8217;s really a matter of your caloric consumption that determines how much fat is built up. There is no need to spend your time worrying about metabolic changes overnight because they&#8217;re a hoax.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 3- Carbohydrates Scare</p>
<p>&#13;Another common problem is that carbohydrates are thought to equal weight. Carbohydrates will enable you to gain substantial amounts of weight. Actually carbohydrates are your body&#8217;s most significant source of energy. The Adkins diet is a prime example of this carbohydrates scare. There are good carbs and bad carbs which many fad diets seem to attack, religiously. The truth is that if you do not have the required amount of carbohydrates you body will become irritable and wrestles.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 4- Lack of Nutrients</p>
<p>&#13;Fad diets are bad in a variety of ways. Depriving your body of your favorite foods isn&#8217;t the most productive way to lose weight. Eating should be enjoyable, if your diet prohibits enjoyment it&#8217;s a &#8220;fad diet&#8221;. Fad diets take a profound toll on your body that you will forfeit later in your lifetime. They deprive your body of significant nutrients that your body requires in order to function correctly and go forth living a vigorous lifestyle. Mixing vegetables and drinking cranberry juice or tea for five days is not a balanced approach to dieting.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 5- Fats, Fats, Fats</p>
<p>&#13;Fad diets, why are they bad? The misconception of low-fat labels on the bottle gives you no right to consume a bulky amount of these foods. The truth is most of those so called low-fat products are jam-packed full of sugar which is a substitute for the lack of fat that they don&#8217;t contain. As a result, they are just highly saturated in calories and the sugar turns into fat. This does not result in adequate weight loss, and often proves to be counterproductive to shedding unwanted weight.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 6- Snacks</p>
<p>&#13;Lots of popular fad diets prevent snacks. Snacks can actually be incorporated in a healthy dieting plan. However, if you consume 5 meals daily your body won&#8217;t require additional snacks. The truth is that they so are called &#8220;bad snacks&#8221; and they will prevent you from overeating and causing you to become motivated throughout your day.</p>

<p>&#13;Another hoax that fad diets pose is that fats are the devil. At a glance this seems to make sense, but actually fats are required for part of your body&#8217;s natural functions. However, bad fats increase your risk of heart complications; there are &#8220;essential fatty acids&#8221; that expatiates your body&#8217;s efficiency of burning fat. The underlines truth is that you need to identify which fats are essentially bad and good for you. Every day millions of people rush to the store to purchase omega-3 and omega-6 to get their recommend daily consumption of fatty acids. Fats can aid you in losing weight.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 8- Cholesterol</p>
<p>&#13;The cholesterol debate is much like the fats debate, a common misconception. Saturated fats are in meats, cheeses, cream, butter which help raise LDL (low density lipoprotein) &#8220;bad cholesterol.&#8221;  However, HDL (high density lipoprotein) is good cholesterol that transfers cholesterol away from your arteries and back to your liver. Many people do not know the difference between good and bad forms of cholesterol. This is why so many fad diets appear to weight loss prone seekers. I would steer clear of this group or minimize your daily intake.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 9- Dairy Products</p>
<p>&#13;Another common fad dieting hoax is that dairy products will ultimately causes you gain lots of unwanted weight. Merged with a daily calorie intake, a dairy-rich diet can double body-fat reduction and aid weight loss in the long run. Dairy products have a lot of vitamins and minerals that your body essentially needs to live a healthy lifestyle. Dairy products contain the hormone calcitrol, which promotes healthy bones and relays a message to fat cells to transfer less sugar to fat and burns more fat.</p>
<p>&#13;Hoax 10- Crash Dieting</p>
<p>&#13;Short crash dieting are an ineffective way to lose weight. Your body is not geared to simply crash and this has been proven to be highly counterproductive. The myth is that you will lose weight pain free, but in reality you will hate dieting and find yourself irritable and troubled. Nearly all of the fad diets people often feel irritable and lifeless as a result to the strict guidelines. Crash diets deplete your body of essential nutrients and vitamins and your lose water weight as a result. Simply, depleting your body for seven days is not a healthy approach to dieting.</p>
<p>&#13;Starving yourself to lose weight is not enjoyable and takes the fun out of eating. Eating should be enjoyable not stressful. I would advise against falling into these popular trends; they don&#8217;t work and can do a substantial amount of physical and emotional harm to your body.  They all seem to attack weight loss in a different way. They are much to harmful to your body.</p>

<p>I was blessed with abundance because of the real estate and mortgages for many years but when the market fell apart I looked at making money from home and chased all the product launches and gurus with this idea and that and finally realized that the answer is not all that complicated.</p>

<p>People everywhere are always looking for a way to lose weight, preferably one that doesn&#8217;t make them sacrifice too much. After a lot of trial and error many are finding that the program Every Other Day Diet works for them. <p>But what exactly is it? The basis of the diet is a thing called &#8220;calorie cycling&#8221; or &#8220;calorie shifting&#8221;. <p>What that means is that you can actually eat those chips and candy bars you are deprived of during a conventional diet. The key to your &#8220;feed days&#8221; is moderation and control. If you eat a week&#8217;s worth of calories in one day, which is possible with fast food and processed foods so readily available, you are not taking in the full benefit of the program. And, ultimately this could cause your own dieting failure.</p>
<p>The plan is good for those who are unsure on what exactly they should be eating as it comes with a food plan. This will tell you plainly what you should be eating and just how much of it. There are even some recipes included for meals and snacks that many find helpful. That allows some a guideline that helps them pick and eat the right foods more easily.</p>
<p>There are three programs that come with this plan. It is recommended to start with the first, the Primer. This is the most flexible and you are allowed to eat whatever you want every other day. The next step is the Lifestyle which allows two &#8220;feed days&#8221; only where you eat whatever you want. The third is for the bodybuilders and athletes and the strictest of all, the Extreme.</p>
<p>The creator of this diet plan makes it very clear that there are three conditions in order for this to work. You will need to be dedicated to succeed. Some type of exercise program must be incorporated into your life. It is essential to help your body burn the fact through exercise. And, the last condition is that you must be realistic.
