There are many children of all races with type 1 diabetes. It is suspected that environmental factors trigger type 1 diabetes, but the exact cause of this disease still evade medical researchers. Typical signs and symptoms of this diabetes are that the children are forever thirsty, they drink a lot of water and they pass urine very frequently. Because the sugar level in their blood is high, there is also a lot of sugar in their urine. It is the high sugar level in the bladder which cause them to drink a lot of water, and that causes them to visit the bathroom so frequently. They do wet their beds also sometimes, especially if they are very young. If this condition goes untreated, these children will also burn fat for energy, and they will lose weight.
What must parents do, if they notice these symptoms in their child?
They need to take the child to their faily doctor for a medical checkup immediately, so that he/she can test for type 1 diabetes . A urine sample will be taken and tested. If there is sugar in the urine, a finger prick test must also be performed. Any high blood sugar reading will indicate that the child has diabetes type 1. No other tests are actually required. It use to be just material for an anecdote that we had as a classmate an obese child or teenager and we may get along with those in that conditions very well as some other people may even make jokes at them and do some bad things. But the fact is that it was just a few people being obese and that’s why they called our attention by being kind of different. But those days are long gone. Child obesity is no longer the characteristic of a few children but it has become an extended condition that is affecting an important percentage of the youth population in America and many industrialized countries.
It is widely documented that obesity is a big threat to the health of our children in many ways. For example:

The Summer of 2009 brings for many of us a strain on our finances. Yet, we do not want our children to loose out on the Summer Camp experience. Swift Nature Camp is a reasonable priced program that offers a traditional overnight camp program at a reasonable price.
This is a recent reprint of an article from associated press. It’s the fireside tale that spooks parents every summer: A few weeks at camp can cost thousands of dollars.
To avoid that scary fate, Gabriel and Jennifer Griego and their friends plan to take turns watching the kids for part of this summer.
“In the past, we always sent them to camps the whole summer,” said Gabriel Griego a 43-year-old father of two in Berkeley, Calif. “This year we’re looking to reduce that by about half.”
Translation: No more than $1,000 for both kids.
As families across the country watch their portfolios melt away, the penny-pinching approach is being applied to every corner of life. Summer camp, which families often plan for months in advance to secure slots, is no exception. Read more...

Owning a swimming pool in your house or garden can be a great way to have fun for yourself and indeed your entire family. However, despite that, it can also be very dangerous if you have children about. If you have the patience, you ought to wait until your children are at least five years old or more until you put a swimming pool on your property. On the other hand, if you already have a swimming pool, there are ways that you can safe-guard your children.
One thing you should always remember is to never, ever, allow your children to be alone near your pool. Children tend to be drawn to water and all it takes is a slip for them to fall into the swimming pool. If you and your children are at your pool side and you have to leave the area for a second, you should always take your children with you.
To be completely safe, you should always ensure that you have loads of safety gear around your pool at all times. Safety items are essential to have around, as they could save the life of a child or in fact, anyone else who can’t swim. Read more...

America was the mother to a US institution, childrens summer Camp. Since the early days camp was all about getting kids out of the city and in to the fresh cool air of the country. Summer camp no longer is limited to the outdoors. Many camps are about computers or gymnastics.
Today, summer camp has progressed from campfires to computer screens and from nature trails to rollerblade rinks. In fact, many of today’s camp programs take place in the heart of the city.
At camp, children are given the choice to take risks and try new things. This voluntary nature makes children more open to new experiences, with personal satisfaction as their motivation. Not only are there opportunities to try new things, but camp offers many areas for children to excel in.
At a good general interest camp, the non-athlete can shine at arts and crafts, woodworking, or dramatic programs, while the athlete can also find many outlets for their skills. Perhaps most importantly, the two campers learn to live together and become friends despite their varied interests. Environmental Camp Read more...

If you are considering private schools for your child’s education, it’s important to make a good decision. We’ve recently chosen amongst the private schools available in Boulder County, Colorado, for our child. Having talked with other parents, and school staff, it turns out there are certain things that most parents want to know. What do parents ask to make a decision they’ll be happy with?
Top 10 Questions Parents Ask to Choose a Private School
1. How does this school create a safe learning environment? You know that there are many safety issues these days, in the public schools especially, from violence to drugs. So when you’re interviewing a private school, you’ll probably want to find out how the school keeps kids safe.
2. What philosophical or theological beliefs are espoused by the school, and how does this effect the children’s classroom experience? A school may be based on a belief system about how children learn best, and/or it may be based on a theology. It’s a good idea to make sure you agree that a school’s philosophy will have a beneficial–or at least neutral–effect on the children. Read more...

Expect to capsize and swim occasionally when paddling a canoe, kayak or raft – it’s part of the sport! But when you hit the water unexpectedly, even strong swimmers need a lifejacket, also known as a personal flotation device (PFD). It allows you to concentrate on doing what’s needed to execute a self rescue and will allow you to assist others. Nearly 70% of all drownings involving canoes, kayaks or rafts might have been avoided if the victim had been wearing a lifejacket! Read more...

One of the most frustrating problems a parent needs to deal with is constipation toddler problems. Constipation pain with toddlers can be brought back to four reasons:
* Eating foods that lack fiber. * Drinking milk that goes beyond the recommended daily amount of 12-16oz. * Not getting enough water during the day. * Ignoring the need to go to the bathroom or waiting too long.
And here’s the kicker. Once you start recognizing the constipation symptoms your child suffers, you’ll also start noticing that they are holding bowel movements. The reason being is that their stools have become hard and painful and they end up holding it in to avoid the pain.
If you want to know which treatment will help your toddler, read this article for more information.
First of all you should start focusing on what your toddler is eating and drinking during the day.
Meaning:
1. Juice, milk and water – Let your toddler drink enough of those. When they are dehydrated the stools will be harder, this is especially so when it’s hot weather. Read more...
