Mediterranean diet is a healthy eating plan that includes the elements of Mediterranean-style cooking. It is the way to eat and drink your way to health. The Mediterranean diet is noteworthy because of the fact that it is very low in saturated fat. Another reason why the diet is good for you lies in the fact that the diet includes the consumption of a significant amount of fruit and vegetables.
Diet scientists have been trying to determine why the Mediterranean Sea inhabitants have less heart disease and cancer thus live longer than Europeans and Americans. The researchers say results suggest the beneficial effect of the Mediterranean diet on heart disease and hardening of the arteries is most likely a result of the combined effects of the different nutrients contained in the food, rather than any one factor.
Numerous studies have examined the effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet in lowering cholesterol, and these studies appear promising. Most of these studies have focused on the Mediterranean diet, emphasizing the consumption of high amounts of virgin olive oil (up to one liter per week) or nuts (up to 30 grams a day, or two handfuls), or in comparison to a low-fat diet. The Mediterranean diet does allow dairy fat and alcohol in moderation.

American Academy of Otolaryngology states that almost 50 percent of adults snore from time to time and another 25 percent always snore. You may not take snoring problems seriously since it is so common. However, chronic snoring does result in adverse health conditions if left alone. In this article, we will explore four familiar snoring effects.
1. Sleep Apnea
Usually snoring does not affect your health. But if your snoring is the result of a serious breathing obstruction, then it can be a sign of sleep apnea, a potential life-threatening sleep disorder.
Sleep apnea arises when your airway gets congested. After you snore, you will stop breathing for a short period of time. This will happen a few times throughout the night. You receive no oxygen for your body during that time. This will increase the carbon monoxide in your system and subsequently, you will wake up.
In 2003, a study by Stanford University showed that snoring is related to hormone deficiency in postmenopausal women. So, the risk of developing sleep apnea is four times greater than that of pre-menopausal women.
Left untreated, it can lead to hypertension and heart disease. Read more...

A new study tells of the significance of decreasing higher blood pressure and links high blood pressure to losing cognitive function in those people over 45 yrs.
For each 10-point increase in diastolic (the number on the bottom) blood pressure lifted the risks of getting diminished mental clarity by seven percent – even with adjustment for other components (age, smoking status, physical exercise, education, diabetes or bad cholesterol) that may influence cognitive abilities. No one knows why this result, measured when the heart is at rest, is connected to psychological ability.
Though the improvement in cognitive troubles might seem modest at 7%, the huge numbers with a growing aging population make this a figure to be respected.
Higher blood pressure is a result equal to, or greater, than 140/90. It is believed that about one in three US adults at present have higher blood pressure – but with no signs or symptoms nearly a third sufferning from it don’t even know it. One way to be sure is to have your blood pressure checked, at your doctor’s office or a nearby pharmacy. Read more...

Do organic treatments for increased cholesterol levels actually perform, and do they have any credible scientific studies to back them up?
Besides watching what you eat, and getting regular workouts, there are a variety of diet supplements that claim to aid. You may well have heard about garlic, ginseng or red yeast rice, but simply because they work for some people, will they do the exact same for you?
Scientific reports are the way the professionals decide if a product has clinical value. Here’s the thinking on the most recent batch of cholestrerol level-decreasing supplements.
Artichoke leaf extract – also recognized as Cynara scolymus is the dried extract of artichoke leaf, now in tablet type.
Facts from 2000 from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of people with complete cholesterol levels above 280 found that after 6 weeks their negative cholesterol (Low density lipoprotein) amounts were down by 23 percent on average.
The reduction was six per cent for the placebo group. The quantities haven’t been seen again in later studies, and the most current trial saw complete cholesterol falling by an average four per-cent among participants, although no impact on either HDL (great) or Ldl (negative) cholesterol levels was seen. Diabetes is not contagious. Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Diabetes means a disease where people have too much sugar in their blood. Diabetes mellitus is a disease where people have too much glucose (a kind of sugar) in the blood. Diabetes is likely to be underreported as the underlying cause of death on death certificates. About 65 percent of deaths among those with diabetes are attributed to heart disease and stroke. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles. There are 20.8 million children in the United States, or 7% of the population, who have diabetes. The three main types of diabetes are type 1 diabetes , type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is necessary for the body to be able to use sugar. Sugar is the basic fuel for the cells in the body, and insulin takes the sugar from the blood into the cells. Read more...
