Since the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) has been passed and implemented, and is the law of the land, it is important that you understand the lay of the land if you are on Medicare (or have a family member that is). The MMA created permanent, wide-ranging changes to the kinds of Medicare supplement plans insurance companies can provide after June 1, 2010. Much of it will sound like alphabet soup, but a dozen can be ignored almost completely in any coverage of changes, as four were simply eliminated (E, H, I and J) and eight are essentially unchanged (A, B, C, D, F, G, K and L). That leaves Plan F as the most comprehensive one now, and two new supplement plans (M and N) are lower-cost choices that require some cost sharing by the insured.
As determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS), the phased-out plans (E, H, I and J) will not even be available for purchase after June 1 of this year, although you can keep the coverage if you are already enrolled and wish to retain it. Alternatively, you can convert your particular supplement plan to another one offered by your insurance company, and many observers believe Plan F is the alternative of first choice (of the insurers, at least). Of course, your situation (or your eligible loved one’s) is unique, and all factors need to be weighed when making these sorts of coverage and feature determinations. Read more...

One big problem that many senior citizens have is finding affordable dental care. Medicare, the health plan for seniors and disabled Americans, does not have a lot of dental benefits. Since this is such an important issue to make sure our seniors are healthy and happy, we need to explore it.
It is very alarming to realize that traditional Medicare barely covers dental services at all. In the case of another illness or injury, some related dental care may be covered. But for the normal routine stuff that is so important, like filling cavities or cleaning teeth, there is no coverage.
I do think this is alarming. It really is not just a problem for American senior citizens either. About one hundred million Americans lack a dental plan. Seniors and disabled people, who get Medicare benefits, are only a fraction of the number.
In some cases, seniors do have dental care covered. They may belong to a Medicare Advantage plan with some benefits. Or they may have a health or dental plan from a job they retired from. Read more...

Most people have heard of Medicare, but the specific details of this federally funded program are not as familiar as the name. If you are a health insurance agent or an individual approaching the age of 65, you will want to learn more about Medicare benefits.
Medicare is a health insurance program that provides benefits to individuals age 65 or older and those who qualify with a disability. Medicare has two main parts – Part A and Part B. Part A provides hospital coverage and Part B provides supplemental medical coverage.
All individuals age 65 or older, who are entitled to Social Security or Railroad Retirement Benefits are automatically eligible for Medicare benefits. These benefits are available to the individual on the first day of the month, in which the individual turns age 65. It should also be noted that individuals under age 65 who have qualified for Social Security disability payments for at least two years and those who have end stage renal disease are also eligible for Medicare.
Part A provides coverage for inpatient hospital services for up to 90 days in each benefit period. Benefits also include payment for prescription drugs only while in the hospital. No coverage is provided for the first three pints of blood that may have been received while in the hospital. Read more...

Precision Senior Marketing (PSM), a national distributor for the nation’s leading insurance companies, including Mutual of Omaha, Gerber Life, Woodmen of the World and/or Assured Life, and Sentinel Life, announced today that it is providing rates and information for the new Medicare Supplement Plan N. PSM is a national Medicare FMO dedicated to serving up the latest news and info on all modernized Medigap plans.
Since June 1, 2010, new Medicare supplement (Medigap) plans have been available. With the modernization, two new plans were introduced to the Medicare system- Medigap Plans M & N. The latter incorporates a new co-pay structure that requires a $20 co-pay for physician visits and a $50 co-pay for emergency room visits, and will offer senior citizens low premiums never before seen with Medicare supplements. Another attractive feature of Medigap Plan N is that it requires little to no underwriting, making it much more accessible to seniors than traditional Medicare supplement plans.
“We believe Medicare Supplement Plan N is going to be huge,” says PSM President Lucas Vandenberg. “The incredible combination of lower price and higher accessibility is going to make Plan N the choice for seniors in 2010, especially for those who are healthy and don’t often need medical care.” Read more...

With the cut-off date for various aspects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), rapidly approaching on June 21, a miscellaneous roster of health benefits and guidelines remain in doubt. These recently appointed laws assure both temporary and permanent features for subscribers of Michigan medical insurance. Amid the groundwork of the PPACA, a variety of trends are evident among employers, certain organizations and consumers.
While employers have overwhelming anticipation that the PPACA would shift the financial burden of health insurance onto employees, eventually decreasing medical benefits and programs, overtime. Hence, the vast majority of corporations are not too keen to transition any of the looming health plan guidelines.
Notwithstanding the grandfather clause, which authorizes young adults, who are full-time students to remain on their parent’s insurance policy, employers are postponing the condition on their insurance polices until it becomes a legal requirement in 2011.
Michigan medical insurance experts advise that adults, who are facing a coverage gap, are better off shopping around for two to three health quotes to avoid any hefty COBRA premiums. Not to mention, several Michigan medical insurance providers such as Blue Cross- Blue Shield are already modifying their programs to concur with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Health plans approved by the federal government and run by private companies are called Michigan Medicare Advantage Plans. These are referred to as Medicare Part C. This is not supplement insurance and you must follow rules set by Medicare.
Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B have benefits equal to those provided for in Medicare Advantage Plans. Medicare Advantage Plans can charge different co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles for the services. Medically necessary services that the original Medicare covers must be covered in Medicare Advantage Plans.
Michigan Medicare Advantage Plans may offer added benefits such as vision, hearing, dental and health and wellness programs. Most will include prescription drug coverage for an additional cost.
In the original Medicare or the original Medicare with a Medigap policy have higher premiums or the cost of services (co-pays and deductibles). Medicate Health Plans have different cost of services and charge different premiums. This is something you might want to check into before you join.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) – Offers low to no co-payment for doctor office visits and no deductibles. However, you are required to receive a referral from your Primary Care Doctor before seeing a specialist, and to receive full benefits, you are must use doctors and hospitals that are within your network. In order to qualify for Medicare you must be 65 or older, under 65 with specific disabilities or any age with End-Stage Renal Disease. The gaps are somethings that Medicare might not cover. Co-payments, deductibles of Medicare covered services and coinsurance are some areas Michigan Medigap can help cover your portion. Medigap covers some costs the Original Medicare Plan will not.
If certain criteria is met Part A covers nursing facilities, inpatient hospital care, hospice’s and home health care. Part B assists in covering necessary medical services like outpatient care and doctor service in which Part A does not cover like occupational and physical therapists, and some home health. Preventative services to help maintain good health and to keep some illnesses from progressing is partially covered in Part B. Part C (Michigan Medicare Advantage Plans) these private insurers like PPOs and HMOs offer Part A, Part B, and occasionally Part D coverage to enrollees. Part D (Michigan Medicare prescription drug coverage) helps cover prescription drug costs. Read more...

Freedom is defined as the absence of coercion or constraint in choice or action and liberation from the power of another. It is what American men and woman have sacrificed their lives defending. Even so, American leadership has created a greater burden imposing what is thought to be the most valid community plan. Unfortunately, this leads to Americans independence to a slow death as efforts are made to stifle them through this new health care revolution.
One American asks How is it that one of our country’s founding documents is the Declaration of Independence and now we are allowing ourselves to affirm our reliance on our government and chief? Obama’s new health care revolution offers many benefits that Americans have never wanted nor opted to pay for. It allows governmental administration to decide the rate and the synopsis of benefits without consulting the actual people it would cover; not quite by the people and for the people. Read more...
